Trupanion Reassesses Ailments As New Conditions to Have Deductible Applied Over and Over
If I could rate a zero, I would. I have a 14 year old flat-coated retriever that I have insured with Trupanion since she was 10 weeks old. We rarely submitted claims (and in 90% of the cases that we did, Trupanion just applied costs to the deductible and we did not receive any coverage), until our dog was 12 years old. While Trupanion states that the deductible for a given condition will be applied only once over the lifetime of the pet, that was not the case for me. My dog had a condition that appeared when she was 2 years old (we paid a deductible), when she was 4 years old (again paid a deductible) and most recently when she was 14 years old (and again had to restart the deductible). The term "chronic" condition was shared with me repeatedly. So, if you dog's condition is not chronic, but appears randomly (same symptoms, same treatment, same outcome), do not expect to be covered. Additionally, Trupanion is now delaying processing and payment of a claim for a condition that we have submitted and have covered for the last 2 years. Finally, Trupanion also increased our premium just after I submitted an appeal on the repeated deductible on a condition for which I have already paid. Please ensure that you consider other insurance providers when looking for coverage for your pet.
